Customer satisfaction surveys that lead to useful feedback

Create a customer satisfaction survey, collect feedback across the customer journey, and use Examinare reports to identify what needs attention.

Ask about a specific customer experience

A customer satisfaction survey helps you understand how customers feel about a purchase, delivery, visit or interaction with your business. A useful customer feedback survey asks about one recent experience, gives customers a clear rating scale, and leaves room to explain their answer.

Examinare brings question creation, survey distribution and reporting into one online survey tool. Use the same core platform for individual feedback projects, or connect a dedicated evaluator module when you need a workflow for deliveries, hotels, restaurants, clinics or training courses.

Define the satisfaction score

Start with a question such as “How satisfied were you with your recent purchase?” Use a consistent five-point scale from Very dissatisfied to Very satisfied. Follow it with “What is the main reason for your rating?” The score shows a pattern; the comment helps you understand it.

For a percentage-based customer satisfaction score (CSAT), define which answers count as satisfied before collecting responses. On a five-point scale, you might count ratings of 4 and 5. Calculate: CSAT = satisfied responses ÷ valid responses × 100. For example, 40 satisfied responses out of 50 valid responses gives 80%. This is an illustrative calculation, not a customer result.

Keep a percentage score separate from an average rating. Delivery Evaluator describes its dashboard score as a mark from 1 to 5. Use a consistent method when comparing teams, periods or channels, and review response counts alongside the score.

Build a short customer feedback survey

  1. Overall satisfaction: How satisfied were you with this experience?
  2. A specific touchpoint: How would you rate the ordering process or delivery?
  3. Open feedback: What should we improve?

These example questions are a starting point, not an automatically installed template. Adapt the wording to the experience you want to measure. Avoid asking two things in the same question, and test the survey on a phone before sending it.

Use multiple-choice questions, rating scales and free-text answers to collect both comparable ratings and useful explanations.

Keep the same definition when comparing results

Response group Illustrative count Included in CSAT?
Satisfied or very satisfied 40 Yes, in the numerator and denominator
Other valid ratings 10 In the denominator only
Skipped the rating question 5 No

In this example the denominator is 50 valid ratings, so CSAT is 80%. Report the number of valid ratings and skipped answers with the score. These figures illustrate the calculation; they are not Examinare customer results.

Ask about the relevant experience

A purchase, a delivery and a support interaction can produce different feedback. Send the survey after the experience you want customers to evaluate, and name that experience clearly. Compare like-for-like groups instead of treating every response as a judgment of the whole company.

For online stores, explore ecommerce customer satisfaction surveys. For delivery feedback and order follow-up, see Delivery Evaluator. The survey distribution options explain public and private surveys and personal invitations.

Choose the next action

Review the response count, the rating distribution and recurring comments together. Check whether feedback represents all customers or only the people who chose to respond. A low response count or a change in the mix of respondents can make a comparison misleading.

Examinare provides real-time charts, individual response review and report exports. Export results to Excel when you want to calculate a score using your own definition, or share a PDF report with your team. Choose an improvement, assign an owner and ask the same question again after making the change.

Customer satisfaction survey questions

How long should a customer satisfaction survey be?

Use the fewest questions needed to make a decision. A rating, a question about the relevant touchpoint and an open comment can be a practical starting point. Add questions only when you know how you will use the answers.

When should I send a customer feedback survey?

Send it after the experience you are measuring. For a delivery survey, allow enough time for the customer to receive and inspect the order. Test the timing with your audience instead of assuming one schedule suits every business.

Can I use the same survey for email and SMS invitations?

Examinare supports email and SMS survey invitations. Choose the distribution method that fits your audience, and review any SMS charges before launching. Delivery Evaluator also supports following up through these channels.

Are customer satisfaction responses anonymous?

Choose the survey mode deliberately. Private invitations can link responses to recipients, while anonymous reporting and private anonymous survey options serve different needs. Review the recipient and security documentation before promising anonymity to respondents.
